walletWhile the movie industry may have sought a low-key Oscar ceremony earlier this week, one of their largest (albeit unendorsed) distribution channels was making a bigger song and dance at their Spectrial. The Pirate Bay has continued to keep the antics up this week and it would seem that their prosecutors are doing their bit to contribute to the farce.

The more we read, the more we concur that the arguments and witnesses being presented are not exclusively to win the legal battle at hand.

windows-vista1Software Piracy was given an airing by Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer on Tuesday where the transcript includes a quote that “Windows license is #1. Pirated windows in #2 — tough competitor, great product and a price that’s tough to beat.”

This would seem true where your product is a wholly stand-alone piece of software. Surely the leading software player of last century can do more to provide value to licensed versions of Windows through networked features such as updates, back-ups, training etc which are not replicated by just copying the disc? The Pirate Bay LogoMusic/Movie/TV/Software industry nemesis, The Pirate Bay, is set to face its day in court next week as the Swedish police concludes their two-year investigation into the piracy accusations levelled at the torrent search service.

Torrent Freak reports that The Pirate Bay have received over 4,000 pages of paperwork relating to the case whereby 4 individuals are to be charged with ‘assisting copyright infringement’.

Multiple copyright holders together are claiming over $100 million in damages.
