PiracyPayback.org is dedicated to supporting the grassroots contributors to film, television, music and gaming. Our Payback service allows you to make donations to beneficiaries who work with or represent artists and other professionals impacted by digital media piracy.

Regardless on your views on the impacts of piracy on these industries, the grassroots contributors can more than ever use a helping hand. It is easy enough to focus on the big names who do not seem be suffering lifestyle impacts as a result of piracy. However, it is also easy to forget that there is a much larger group of people with lesser known names who are argubly impacted by the ongoing growth of piracy.

Industries are looking to replace the revenues under threat. As such, they tend to under-invest in new talent or otherwise ignore film, music or gaming ideas that are not deemed immediately viable once the impact of piracy is accounted for.

Irrespective of how unwise this approach is in dealing with piracy, it stifles the innovation we need from these industries. Your Payback will be a step in ensuring this is addressed.

The Blog

As part of our support for industry contributors impacted by piracy, our blog provides an independent commentary and dialogue on piracy and the related items of digital-rights-management (DRM), emerging media business models, content distribution and other piracy related activity.

While we are firm believers that piracy does not help anyone, we are equally firm that large parts of the industry are not helping themselves in addressing piracy by clinging to outdated media business models.
